To the capital where you can visit the only protected game park in the world that is separated from a metropolis by a mere fence, the Nairobi National Park.
Explore part of the Great Valley with visits to Lake Nakuru which is abundant with flamingos, the ever active Lake Bogoria and get to scale the great Mount Kenya . Moving on to the Amboseli National Park which is dubbed the 'Land of the Giants' due to the huge population of African Elephants, as well as the spectacular view of the Mount Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa.
But that is only the beginning, as you are yet to experience the Mara National Park which is home to the Great Wildebeest Migration , the seventh natural wonder of the world. The Lake Victoria which is the world's second largest freshwater lake offers a variety of big game fishing and is a bird sanctuary.
The arid Northern part of Kenya houses the Samburu National Park, which offers a diverse range of game and plant life and of course the Lake Turkana, also known as the 'Jade Sea' whose beauty cannot even be explained in words. It is also the home to the cradle of mankind.

Maasai Mara Game Reserve is Africa greatest wildlife and the worlds most famous safari destination, located in Kenya. The Masai Mara is famous for the Great Wildebeest migration - 8th wonder of the world - , roaming lions and of course the hospitable Maasai people. The 1,510 sq km reserve has a habitat ranging from riverine forests to grasslands doted with acacia tree famed for being leopard resting points. The Masai Mara is part of the ecosystem that includes the equally famous Serengeti of Tanzania . The wildlife variety is truly overwhelming: Thomsons gazelle, zebra, black rhino, buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion, fox, jackals, impalla and hippopotami in addition to the abundant bird species.
Lake Nakuru National Park is situated in the Rift Valley region of Kenya and comprises of the blue-green Lake Nakuru , bushy grasslands and yellow acacia woodlands, the Great Rift Valley Escarpments hills and ridges. The park’s swamps and marshes are home to water birds including the famed pink flamingo and around 450 terrestrial bird species. The buffalo, white rhino, zebra, giraffe, hyena and over 56 mammal species are in abundance. Your stay is in world class lodges such as the spectacular Sarova Lion Hill Lodge or Lake Nakuru lodge . Alternatively you have the option of pitching in special campsites namely Reedbuck, Nyuki, Nyati, Rhino, Soysambu, Chui and Naishi. Public Campsites at Bacpakers and Makalia equally provide additional camping options.
Aberdares National Park is situated in the central highlands of central Kenya. The 767 km2 park cuts through valleys and deeply forested habitat and slopes in the western region. The Black Rhino is among the wildlife to be spotted in the park together with elephant, Sykes monkey, colobus monkey, leopard, baboon and occasionally the bongo antelope - found in the bamboo forest – and the lion. The eland and serval cats are to be found higher up in the moorland. Wildlife and bird viewing is not all the park offers; picnicking while bird viewing the over 250 species of birds including the eagles, plovers and the Jackson’s Francolin is a must do. Trout fishing in the park rivers and waterfalls is available. Camping together with walking are ample activities to compound the park experience. The park is home to several luxurious lodges including the Treetops Lodge, famed for hosting Princess Elizabeth when she learnt that she had become a queen, after the death of her father.

Nairobi (NBI) (Jomo Kenyatta International) is 16km (10 miles) southeast of the city.
Mombasa (MBA) (Moi International) is 13km (8 miles) west of the city.
Yellow Fever- A yellow fever vaccination certificate is required from travelers over one year of age arriving from infected areas; those countries formerly classified as endemic zones are considered to be still infected by the Kenyan authorities. A shot is NOT required for visitors from US/Canada/UK/EU direct.
Cholera - Following WHO guidelines issued in 1973, a cholera vaccination certificate is no longer a condition of entry to Kenya . Up-to-date advice should be sought before deciding whether these precautions should include vaccination, as medical opinion is divided over its effectiveness.
Typhoid & Polio - Immunization against typhoid and poliomyelitis is recommended but not required for entry.
Malaria - Risk exists throughout the year in the whole country. There is usually less risk in Nairobi and in the highlands (above 2500m/8200ft) of the Central, Eastern Nyanza, Rift Valley and Western Provinces. Mefloquine, doxycycline or malarone are the recommended prophylaxis.
HIV/AIDS - There is a risk of contracting AIDS if the necessary precautions are not taken. It is advisable to take a kit of sterilized syringe needles for any possible injections needed, as well as drip needles for emergencies.
Capital - Nairobi.
Language - Swahili is the national language and English is the official language. There are over 42 ethnic languages spoken, including Kikuyu and Luo.
Religion - Mostly traditional but there is a sizeable Christian population (both Catholic and Protestant) and a small Muslim community.
Time - GMT + 3.
Electricity - 220/240 volts AC, 50Hz. Plugs are UK-type square three-pin. Bayonet-type light sockets exist in Kenya .
Telephone - Country code: 254 (followed by 20 for Nairobi, 41 for Mombasa and 51 for Nakuru). International calls can sometimes be made direct or operator-assisted by dialing 0196. Public telephones work with coins or with phone cards (which may be purchased from post offices or from international call services in major towns); coin-operated phone booths are painted red, card-operated booths are painted blue. Major hotels also offer an international phone service, but they usually charge up to 100% more. In larger towns, private telecommunication centers offer international services. For local calls, it is useful to have plenty of small change available.
Mobile Telephone - Roaming agreements exist with international mobile phone companies. The main network providers are Celtel (website: www.celtel.com), which has extensive coverage in the south west and around the coast and Mombasa, and Safari com (website: www.safaricom.co.ke), with coverage in from Mombasa to Nairobi and in the southeast.
Internet - There are Internet cafes in major cities and hotels.
The coastal areas are tropical, but tempered by monsoon winds. The lowlands are hot but mainly dry, while the highlands are more temperate with four seasons. Nairobi has a very pleasant climate throughout the year due to its altitude. Near Lake Victoria, the temperatures are much higher and rainfall can be heavy.
Lightweight cottons and linens with rainwear are advised for the coast and lakeside. Warmer clothing is needed in June and July and for the cooler mornings on the coast. Lightweights are needed for much of the year in the highlands. Rainwear is advisable between March and June and October and December.
